No Exercising

Today was not exactly a day of rest. However, I did take a break from exercising. I'm starting to feel somewhat guilty when I don't exercise at least 30 minutes a day. My guilt may come from me not being too physically active other than when I am exercising. Nonetheless, below is a list of what I ate on my leisurely Tuesday:

Tuesdays
10:30am Omelette(Organic Brown eggs(2) with Cheddar Cheese)
11:00am Pistachios(13)Planters(Jalapeño Flavor)
4:05pm Organic Pink Lady Apple (1)
6:05pm Starfruit (1)
6:30pm Asia Stir Fired Veggies(Broccoli, Cauliflower, Red Peppers, Green Beans) in a Szechuan Sauce with Shrimp

Meatless Monday

I didn't start my Monday morning off with eating breakfast. We all have heard that breakfast is the most important meal of day. It's also been said we should eat at least five small meals a day. I prefer just to eat when I'm hungry.

Each week I have a vegetarian day. Sometimes it's Meatless Monday, sometimes Vegetarian Tuesday and sometimes it's several days out of the week. Yesterday was Meatless Monday and consisted of the following:

Monday
12:30pm-1:05pm Wogging (walking & Jogging)
01:12pm-1:42pm Total Body Sculpting with Gilad
2:10pm Medium size Organic Gala Apple, Strawberry (6)
5:05pm Medium size Organic Granny Smith Apple, Organic Kiwi, and Strawberry

8:28pm Salad (Organic Romaine Lettuce, Organic Cucumber, and warm Asparagus) Creamy Italian Dressing

After The First 23

Only twenty-three days into My Low Carb Diet and I weighed in at 155 pounds. I usually weigh myself on Fridays, but until I'm able to weigh in this Friday, a 10 pound weigh loss in 23 days will suffice.

On Saturday, my husband and I went wogging (that's walking and jogging) immediately after I left school. We walked for about 3 minutes and jogged for 30-45 seconds to speed up our heart rate. The exercise continued once we got home by following an episode of "Total Body Sculpt with Gilad". On Sunday, I cycled 30 minutes on an exercise bike followed by another episode of "Total Body Sculpt with Gilad". Sunday night we went out to eat at a buffet after a wonderful church service. Allow me to share the details of my diet and exercise from my journal for this past weekend. Water was the only beverage for both days.
Saturday
11:00am-11:30am Wogging (walking and jogging)
11:45am-12:15am Total Body Sculpt with Gilad
1:35pm Omelette (organic eggs, with cheese and shallots)
4:40pm Diner (Baked Salmon with asparagus, broccoli,
  cauliflower, and a little ratatouille)
8:30pm Conch salad (ceviche conch with onions cucumbers and tomatos)

Sunday
8:18am-8:45am Exercise Bike
8:50am-9:20am Total Body Sculpt w/ Gilad
10:10am Strawberries (6)
2:55pm Strawberries (3)
5:15pm Shrimp (8), Fish (Tilapia), Broccoli, Cauliflower,
Asia stir fried veggies (zucchini, Squash, red pepper)
and sautéed onions. My second plate had melon chunks (4),
pineapple chunks (3), and a little lettuces (Italian dressing)

My Low Carb Diet

So recently my job changed my schedule and I had to start working overnight. It was very difficult to stay up, so I loaded up on carbs to help gain a zap of energy. I would have soda, milk chocolate candies and any sugar laden item I could put my hands on. Then, the holidays came around. I had parties at work and parties at home. At that time, I was on a cupcake diet - I made cupcakes for almost every occasion! Needless to say, I eventually came back to the 5'2, 165 pounds I once was.

As a result, I started to change my "eating lifestyle" (once again) just 25 days ago. Back in 2004, the low carb diet helped me tremendously but I didn't think it was safe to stay on the diet for an extended period of time. Not only did I think it was unsafe, but I've been living my life as a vegan, a vegetarian, and most recently, as a pescatarian - all of which has tons of carbs. Now, there's a new low carb diet called "The Paleo Diet", which just seems like a repackaged "Atkin's Diet" from my initial observations.

Since the low carb diet was previously instrumental in my weight loss success, I decided to develop my own version. The diet I'm now on is simply called "My Low Carb Diet". The name derived from a combination of MY experiences, MY eating habits, and things that have worked for ME. Maybe, just maybe, My Low Carb Diet can be Your Low Carb Diet.

On My Low Carb Diet, I incorporate a lot of fruits. On the contrary, fruits seem to be taboo on the Atkins and Paleo Diets. I've been keeping a record of my food in-take, exercises, and weight under My Low Carb Diet and will begin sharing my results with you over time.

Atkins Diet, Vegan, Pescatarian, South Beach Diet, the Master Cleanse - Welcome to I Tried it Diet!

If there's a diet that you've heard of I probably already tried, but we'll talk about that in a second. First let me give you a little background on myself. I am part time student, a full time wife, and a mother of two very active boys. I've always been a food lover. Ever since I could remember, I've always wondered how food affects my body. When I was younger I tried to use food to get bigger. Yes, bigger. Imagine that. My friends and I were a pretty bony bunch so we actually wanted to gain weight.

Oh how I wish that was the case now. What we thought would help us get bigger was to go on an ice cream "diet". We'd eat ice cream right before bed. Some of them would have an Ensure drink for breakfast, too, but I didn't prefer that drink. It didn't work at the time but I'm sure it will now, just trust me. Let me speed it up to the present.

After I had my son in 2003, I gained an unhealthy amount of weight. I'm 5'2 tall and weighed a whooping 165 pounds. This fact started the diet craze for me. I won't go through all the diets now (we'll save that for a later post), but I will say that "The Atkins Diet" was the most successful for me at the time. The problem was I had become too thin, too fast. I was also concerned how this diet was affecting my health. I quit "The Atkins Diet" and have been going through many others since.

As a Dietetic major and a serial dieter, I've embarked on a roller coaster of a journey to weight loss. This blog is all about that journey.
